For panel beaters and smash repairers

An SDS register for the paint shop, not just the workshop.

A paint mixing room alone can hold dozens of products: tinters, binders, reducers, hardeners and clears, plus the fillers, sealers and adhesives on the panel floor. Several of them are two-pack products that Safe Work Australia treats as high risk. SupplySafe keeps every current SDS in one register, laid out like your shop, with one QR poster at the door.

Two-pack paints and isocyanates

Isocyanates are common in two-pack spray paints, clears, primers, varnishes and adhesives, usually in the hardener (activator). On an SDS they may appear as polyisocyanate, isocyanate prepolymer or polymerised isocyanates.

Safe Work Australia's Code of Practice for spray painting says exposure to isocyanates should be treated as high risk, and that labels and SDS should be checked to find out which of your products contain them. Exposure can come from spray mist, from sanding paint that hasn't fully cured, and from heating isocyanate-containing materials.

What follows from it

  • Health monitoring. A PCBU must provide health monitoring for workers doing ongoing work with isocyanates where there's a significant risk to their health.
  • Respirators. Safe Work Australia's isocyanates guide says organic vapour cartridge respirators and powered air-purifying respirators don't give adequate protection when spraying isocyanates; it points to air-line respirators or self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • The SDS is the starting point. Both decisions begin with knowing which products in the shop contain isocyanates, from their current SDS.

Built for a body shop

  • Areas that match the shop

Mixing room, spray booth, prep bay, panel floor, flammables cabinet. Say where each product lives.

  • A whole paint system at once

Search by brand or product and add every result in one go, then take out what you don't stock.

  • Two-part kits as one line

Where a filler, panel bond or seam sealer comes as a Part A and Part B kit, it shows as one line, each part with its own SDS.

  • Kept current for you

When a manufacturer revises an SDS, your register switches to the new one automatically and marks it as updated, so you can tell the painters what changed.

  • Readable by everyone in the shop

Painters, apprentices and the parts runner scan the poster and read any current SDS. No login, no per-user fee.

  • A record of what was on site

A change history of who added, moved or removed each product, and when. Download it as a CSV.

What the law asks, and what we do

The model WHS Regulations ask you to keep a register of the hazardous chemicals at your workplace with the current SDS for each, readily accessible to workers and emergency services. For a paint shop, that register is also where your isocyanate check, your respirator choices and your health monitoring program start.

SupplySafe gives you the register, the access and the currency. It does not decide which products are hazardous, flag isocyanates, choose PPE or arrange health monitoring, and it is not a substitute for a risk assessment or professional safety advice. Check with your state or territory regulator for any local requirements.

Questions panel and smash repairers ask

Does SupplySafe tell us which products contain isocyanates?
No. Sections 2 and 3 of each SDS do (look for isocyanate, polyisocyanate or an isocyanate prepolymer in the ingredients). SupplySafe puts the current SDS for every product in one register, so that check is quick and you know you're reading the current revision.
We're changing paint systems. Is that a big job?
No. Remove the old system's products from the register and add the new ones; you can add every result of a search at once. The old entries stay in the change history, so you can show what was on site and when.
Do we still need printed SDS in the shop?
Safe Work Australia's guidance allows the register and SDS to be kept electronically, provided workers and emergency services can readily access them, and suggests a backup such as hard copies in case power, internet or phones fail. We recommend a printed backup folder near the mixing room. SupplySafe builds it in one click and shows "Reprint needed" when a sheet changes. The final call is the business's.
Our paint supplier's SDS aren't on SupplySafe yet.
Send us the PDFs (hello@supplysafe.com.au) or ask your rep to. We load them, check each against the document and keep them current.
We also do mechanical work.
One register covers both: add your workshop products alongside the paint shop's. See SupplySafe for mechanics.
What does SupplySafe cost?
A$39 per site per month, or A$390 per site per year (two months free). No per-user fee: everyone on site can read the register. A 30-day free trial with no card needed, and you can cancel any time. Founding price: A$29 a month per site for your first 12 paid months. First 100 workplaces, start your plan by 31 March 2027. Paying yearly, it is A$290 a year per site for your first year. Manufacturers, importers and suppliers use SupplySafe free. See pricing.
We already keep a register. How do we move across?
Search the catalogue and tick what you hold; you can add every result of a search at once. There's no self-serve spreadsheet import yet, so send your current register to hello@supplysafe.com.au and we'll help load it. A product isn't listed? Send us the PDF from your folder (hello@supplysafe.com.au) and we load it and keep it current.
Who keeps the SDS up to date?
The company that issues it. Manufacturers and importers publish their current SDS on SupplySafe, free, and each one is checked against the PDF before it goes live. When they publish a revision, every register that holds the product switches to it automatically and marks the line as updated, so you can tell your team what changed. An SDS we load for you from your folder, we keep current too. SupplySafe never writes or edits an SDS.
