Comparing chemical management systems

Looking for a ChemAlert alternative? Here's an honest comparison.

ChemAlert is enterprise chemical management software from an established Australian company, backed by its own scientists. If your site mainly needs the current SDS for every product, a register staff can open with one scan, and a price you can see up front, SupplySafe may be the simpler fit. Here's what each one does, so you can choose.

What ChemAlert offers

In the words of its maker, RMT, from its public website:

  • It's enterprise chemical management software, combining an SDS management system and chemical inventory software, built in Australia. RMT is based in West Perth, Western Australia.
  • A subscription gives access to a library of more than 400,000 original manufacturer SDS.
  • Its scientists review the SDS in its library and publish research reports, send product alerts when they find a discrepancy with the manufacturer's SDS, and give each chemical a green, amber or red hazard colour rating.
  • It also does risk assessments, GHS labels, stock registers and reports, and flags storage incompatibilities and banned products.
  • An app for iOS and Android with barcode scanning.
  • To start, you book a demo; RMT migrates your existing data and includes introductory training, plus scientific and technical support with the subscription.

Where SupplySafe is different

  • SDS from the company that issues them

Manufacturers and importers publish their current SDS on SupplySafe, free. Each one is checked against the PDF before it goes live. When they publish a revision, every register that holds the product switches to it automatically and marks the line as updated. Nobody has to chase it.

  • Built around one QR poster per site

Print one A4 poster for each site. Staff and emergency services scan it and see every current SDS on site. No login, no app, and the poster never needs reprinting.

  • A price on the website, no demo needed

A$39 per site per month, or A$390 per site per year (two months free). No per-user fee, a 30-day free trial with no card needed, and you can start today on your own.

  • Set up on your phone

Name your site, search by brand or product, tick what you hold. A typical site takes a few minutes, right there on the floor.

  • A printed backup folder in one click

The register list and every current SDS for a site, ready to print. The register shows "Reprint needed" when an SDS changes.

  • The safety document is never switched off

If you stop paying, the current SDS for products already in your register and the QR poster view keep working.

Founding price: A$29 a month per site for your first 12 paid months. First 100 workplaces, start your plan by 31 March 2027. Paying yearly, it is A$290 a year per site for your first year.

How it works

When ChemAlert is the better choice

SupplySafe does one job. ChemAlert will suit you better if you need any of these:

  • Risk assessments. SupplySafe doesn't do them.
  • Stock registers with quantities, storage compatibility and banned-product checks. SupplySafe has a free-text quantity note, nothing more.
  • Labels. SupplySafe doesn't make labels.
  • Independent scientific reviews of each SDS. SupplySafe checks each SDS matches its PDF, but never writes, edits or rates an SDS.
  • Enterprise rollout with training and in-house scientists on call. SupplySafe is self-serve, with email and phone help.
  • Sites in several countries. SupplySafe is built for Australian workplaces, in English.

Compare on your own numbers: ask RMT for a quote for your sites, and set it against A$39 a site a month.

Who SupplySafe suits

Workshops and other small workplaces that hold a shelf of products from many brands and need a register that stays current without anyone chasing paper. One site or several: see SupplySafe for multi-site businesses.

SupplySafe keeps the register, the access and the currency. It does not decide which of your products are hazardous, and it is not a substitute for a risk assessment or professional safety advice.

Questions about switching

Is SupplySafe part of ChemAlert or RMT?
No. SupplySafe is a separate Australian business with no connection to ChemAlert or RMT. ChemAlert and its product names belong to their owner.
Does SupplySafe do risk assessments, labels or stock registers?
No. SupplySafe keeps your register, the current SDS for each product and the QR poster. It doesn't do risk assessments, labels, stock quantities or storage compatibility checks, and it doesn't publish its own research reports on SDS. If you need those, a broader chemicals management system will suit you better.
How do I move my register across?
Search the catalogue and tick what you hold; you can add every result of a search at once. There's no self-serve spreadsheet import yet, so send us your current register (hello@supplysafe.com.au) and we'll help load it. Product not listed yet? Send us the PDF from your folder and we load it and keep it current.
Do I still need printed SDS?
Safe Work Australia's guidance says the register and SDS can be kept electronically, as long as workers and emergency services can get to them readily. The model Code of Practice also says to provide a backup means, such as hard copies, in case power, internet or phones fail. So we recommend a printed backup folder alongside your SupplySafe register. SupplySafe makes it in one click and tells you when an SDS changes and it needs reprinting.
What does SupplySafe cost?
A$39 per site per month, or A$390 per site per year (two months free). No per-user fee, a 30-day free trial with no card needed, and you can cancel any time. Founding price: A$29 a month per site for your first 12 paid months. First 100 workplaces, start your plan by 31 March 2027. Paying yearly, it is A$290 a year per site for your first year.
Who keeps the SDS up to date?
The company that issues it. Manufacturers and importers publish their current SDS on SupplySafe, free, and each one is checked against the PDF before it goes live. When they publish a revision, every register that holds the product switches to it automatically and marks the line as updated, so you can tell your team what changed. An SDS we load for you from your folder, we keep current too. SupplySafe never writes or edits an SDS.
